EATING DISORDERS IN MAN AND WHAT TO DO TO BE FREE

Eating disorders among human beings are largely grouped into two types i.e. Anorexia nervosa and Bulimia nervosa. The term anorexia nervosa describes the emotional disorder in which there is an abnormal fear of being fat, as a result of which the victim stops eating, leading to a dangerous weight loss. This malady is much more common among young women.

Bulimia nervosa on the other hand describes an emotional disorder in which the victim repeatedly eats too much and later forces himself to vomit what was eaten. The compulsive eating habit is meant to relieve a psychological stress.

A victim of anorexia is easily identified as he constantly worries or talks about his weight and efforts being made to reduce the weight. It is not uncommon to find such such people looking at their faces in the mirror several times in one day. The victims of anorexia usually reduce their weight by subjecting their bodies to starvation, even when it is clear that nothing is wrong with their weight.

In contrast, victims of bulimia compulsively eat in the hope of gaining weight . They usually do this to a point where they over-eat and they are in distress. To obtain relief from their distress, they will seek means of vomitting part of what they have eaten. They usually hate themselves for behaving this way, as a result of which they become depressed.

These eating disorders results from low self-esteem, desire to stand out in a group, stress and a desire to be acceptable to peers and friends. According to Abraham Maslow, everyone has "love and esteem needs" but these victims carry their own desires to extreme levels.

The first step towards a cure is self acceptance. Each individual should accept himself as he is, knowing that he was created in the image of God. God is never known to make mistakes, therefore whatever your shape or weight, that is the best for you.This self acceptance is the key to happiness.

The second step towards a cure is to use the principle of auto-suggestion to weaken the force-field of the fear of overweight or underweight. To be able to do this, look at yourself in the mirror and repeat the following statements: "I AM FEELING GREAT SPIRIT, SOUL AND BODY. I AM CREATED IN THE IMAGE GOD WHO IS PERFECT IN ALL RESPECTS. I AM THEREFORE CREATED PERFECT. MY PRESENT WEIGHT IS THE BEST FOR ME, I AM OF THE RIGHT SHAPE. I CHOOSE TO ACCEPT MYSELF AS I AM. I AM CREATED BEAUTIFUL. IN ALL MY ACTIVITIES TODAY EVERYONE SHALL SEE THE RADIANCE OF GOD'S GLORY IN ME AND THEY SHALL PRAISE MY HEAVENLY FATHER"
